In The Beginning

We started as a group of four good friends on a weekend trip to Phoenix, Arizona, in February 2019. From that event, we had an idea. What if we could create a safe, social space where gay/bi men could gather and go on camping trips during the summer?

So, we set up a Facebook group and invited a few close friends. Of course, many of our friends also wanted to ask a couple of friends. We ensured everyone felt comfortable, even if they weren’t out yet. 

Our group grew much faster than any of us could have imagined! By June and our first campout rolled around, we had over 100 guys who had joined the group. In our first campout, just over 50 of them joined us. 

Today, our group has grown to well over 800 men who try a few times a year to get together to enjoy each other’s company and friendship. We have added additional events outside of camping, like trips to Palm Springs, Hot pool events at Lava Hot Springs and Crystal Hot Springs, dinner, and other social activities. We are always looking for fun new things to do.

environments, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds."

Background:

The function of our group is best described by defining community (in conjunction with the Mission Statement):

"a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals."

The gay community has traditionally been disjointed. This is primarily due to outside negative attitudes, which are

particularly strong in the US. This influence manifests itself in the form of non-cohesive gay relationships. They

are generally superficial and only last a short time. This leads to isolation, depression, and a diminished quality of

life (both physically and mentally). These symptoms grow particularly more acute as gay men grow older.

Regardless of their origins, these attitudes have a devastating effect on the gay community.

CUB Camping:

Our goal is to break this ongoing, negatively reinforcing cycle of detachment. We host multiple events

throughout the year, but the primary events we host are two camping outings during the summer. To be as

inclusive as possible, they are very affordable (break-even for our charity). However, with any excess funds, we

also sponsor those men of all ages who could not otherwise afford to attend. Many families abandon gay men, and

these men usually do not have families of their own. Isolation is the norm. 

The CUB Adventures organization

provides a community, through it's events and activities, where men who have been marginalized, can find a

safe place to associate without fear of judgment or exclusion. And everyone has fun! Each camp-out is four

days of freedom from the routine and the outside world.

The better question is, why not join CUB Adventures? We have a fantastic group of guys who enjoy spending time together. Our original plan of a small group of guys for a camping trip may have changed, but our mission has not. Our mission is to provide a social environment where men of all shapes and sizes feel comfortable coming together and enjoying each other’s company, making new connections, and, hopefully, life-long friends.

We are also proud to have our Make a Wish program, which raises money to help our needy members. Sometimes it is to help them get to an event; other times, it is with different financial needs. Our members are very generous when it comes to helping out fellow men.
